I'm stuck

I'm stuck.

I feel like I'm not growing, not progressing through life the way I should be.

I've decided to leave my job because it's slowly killing me. You know that quote from Office Space:

"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

That is how I feel. I go home and break down. I can't take it anymore. So I've decided to do something about it. I'm going to look for a part-time job (hopefully waitressing) and I'll save up enough money for 2 months of rent and my bartending course. Then I'll quit, do the course and try to find something in a bar for the next few months, just so I can save up for school.

I'll be doing this English program: English as a second language. I'm taking Japanese lessons. I'll hopefully be able to go to Japan and teach English for a little bit. It's the one country I've wanted to see my whole life... I've always been fascinated with the culture, history, etc.

So I'm going to do it. I figure, even if I work at Starbucks or something, a few nights a week, it won't kill me, you know? I'm willing to sacrifice my days off to make my ends meet.

Because right now, I'm starving to death.

  3. Good luck with your choices. Your plan sounds pretty reasonable to me - you're young and you have time to get your act together.

French is your native language, right? You could check out a teaching gig in Japan to teach French as well - they're big on European languages.

Don't sweat the bartending school course - I did one myself back in '89, it was a piece of cake. Most people don't order anything more complicated than a beer or "shot/mix" (as in, "Jack and Coke," "scotch and water," "rum and ginger ale," etc.)

Regardless, live life to its fullest, because you only get one chance at it, and it doesn't last forever...

  4. sean: thanks man, it's really been stressing me out.

    rob: thanks =)

matt: Italian is my natice language, so I figure that knowing Italian, English and French should make me that more in demand.

  5. Well, you obviously don't need any advice from me. You know something's broke, you have a multi-phase plan of attack to fix it.

All that's left is for you to stick to your guns and sacrifice the now in favor of that magnificent later.

    I'm impressed.
